"My passion for still life goes back to my discovery of the
17th century painters like Baugin, Brueghel de Velours, Jan Davidsz de
Heem, Vandael and so many others.
Through their paintings, I understood that there was life beyond
mere objects and that the choice of objects was an essential component
in provoking an emotional reaction towards that painting.
I never stopped in my quest to understand these painters and
translate matter and transparency through the simple use of colour. The
difficulty however lies in that this form of figurative painting is so
extreme that it becomes abstract in itself.
To arouse emotions through a simple fruit display is such a
reward that one can only strive to achieve it and share it with others."
